Job Summary
As a Senior Sustainability Manager, you work directly with the Head of Sustainability, you’ll lead and support a wide range of sustainability initiatives across the Crown Prosecution Service. This includes close collaboration with teams in Commercial, Finance, Digital, Policy, Strategy, People, and Estates, as well as coordination with Arm’s Length Bodies and external partners.
You will be responsible for driving sustainability engagement both internally and externally, ensuring we meet our commitments under the Greening Government Commitments and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact, shaping how sustainability is embedded across the organisation.
Job Description
Your roles and responsibilities:
- Work in partnership with Government Property Agency and colleagues to collect and validate sustainability data.
- Produce high-impact communication content for internal channels (e.g., intranet, newsletters, staff briefings) that promotes awareness and practical action on sustainability.
- Design and roll out training initiatives, including e-learning, webinars, and in-person sessions, to upskill staff on sustainability, climate action, and carbon literacy.
- Maintain Climate Change Risk Assessment and Adaptation Plan.
- Maintain Greening Government Commitment data and reporting.
- Build and support sustainability champions, green networks, and staff communities to help embed behavioural change at a local level.
- Collaborate with key internal stakeholders, including Estates, Digital, HR, and Communications, to integrate sustainability messaging and values across all areas of business.
- Act as a sustainability ambassador, representing the CPS in cross-government engagement and with key partners such as the Government Property Agency (GPA) and Cabinet Office.

To be eligible to apply, you need to:
- Be 18 years old or over
- Be a member of a relevant professional body (eg IEMA)
- Demonstrate relevant sustainability experience
- Demonstrate presentation skills
- Experience in stakeholder Influence & Relationship Building - Strong track record of influencing senior stakeholders and building effective relationships across sectors.
- Experience in training & Behaviour Change Delivery - Experience in designing and delivering adult learning, training, or awareness programmes focused on sustainability and behaviour change.
- Sustainability Expertise & Policy Knowledge - Demonstrated credibility and up-to-date knowledge in sustainability, including Net Zero, environmental behaviour change, Greening Government Commitments, and UK environmental strategies and policies.
- Strategic Communication & Engagement - Proven ability to lead internal communications or engagement in complex organisations, with excellent skills in translating technical content for diverse audiences.
- Technical & Analytical Proficiency - Skilled in data analysis (Excel, Power BI), familiar with digital platforms (Teams, SharePoint, Slido), and knowledgeable in sustainable procurement and risk/governance frameworks (e.g., HMG Orange Book, TCFD).
