Often the first point of call when addressing energy efficiency, lighting systems can be found in all buildings and on all sites. Understanding the common lighting systems and their general uses is one of the core competencies of any energy and sustainability practitioner.

The EMA Lighting course will give delegates an understanding of the lighting systems commonly found in the UK and how they are used. The course will guide delegates in how to be generally more efficient. It will also help energy and sustainability practitioners to understand what information may be shared by lighting companies, how to assess its relevance and integrity, and how to engage with them at a higher level.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identification and basic understanding of the common types of lighting currently found in the UK, their general uses and basic pros and cons;
  • Basic measurements for lighting output and efficacy;
  • Understanding the process for new lighting installations and upgrades with pictorial examples;
  • Basics of lighting design – demonstration during the course using free software;
  • Basic lighting control systems that can increase energy efficiency while maintaining required light levels and safe environments.
